Of course you did.
Of course you did.
Talk about fickle. Let’s go through who Gwen has liked like that so far, shall we?
1 Merlin
2. Lancelot
3. Arthur
4. Gwaine
(i haven’t seen season 4…anymore?)
I know I should ignore the hate. I know. But it irks me massively that Guinevere’s the only character who’s judged/disparaged in this way.
She’s “fickle” because she dared to have feelings for more than one person. She’s “too plain” in S1 but then, at least “we couldn’t see her boobs all the time”. THERE IS NOTHING WRONG with a woman showing interest in multiple men. THERE IS NOTHING WRONG with having breasts and/or displaying them. I’m a busty gal who wears cleavage-baring tops on occasion, and I guarantee you I could match wits with the best of you and leave you gasping for intellectual air like a landed fish.
Oh yes, it was soooo nice when Gwen had her little unrequited crush on Merlin (who was making googly eyes at Morgana and becoming BFF’s with Arthur). It was sooo nice when the brown girl had no place in the lives of the The Important White People. It was sooo great when Bradley supposedly said Lancelot is a better choice for Guinevere, ah yes remember that way back in Season 2?
FUCK this. As a woman of color I get zero representation in the media unless I’m some sassy BFF or in the employ of white people or a degradingly portrayed sex worker/ jezebel (there’s a reason Pretty Woman is about a white sex worker). And when a WOC finally gets to be on screen, and beautiful and adored, then she’s ‘fickle’ and showing her boobs too much and oooh the lead actor has some thoughts that we’re going to interpret to suit our anti woman anti POC agenda. I don’t give a fuck what Bradley thinks or says, he’s an actor portraying a character. Clearly, he keeps his personal opinions out of the performance because anyone who tells me he doesn’t have on-screen chemistry with Angel is grossly disingenuous. I couldn’t give a shit what they think off-screen, my interest is in the fictional universe of Camelot, and in that fictional universe Arthur and Guinevere have demonstrated their love for another again and again and fucking again.
I feel like all this has been said before and I don’t even know anymore why I bother because clearly vast swathes of the female fandom are quite content to uphold the hegemony of white male representation in the media and I don’t even…gah.
Arwenites…I need some hugs :(*Hugs*… I agree whole heartily with what you are saying. The Gwen hate… is ridiculous.
-hugs- Cause that was awesome.

Hey Anj, you should write the one where Robb is cursed into an owl and is not very appreciative of Gwen’s amusement and delight.
“Stop frowning,” Gwen said, but of course Robb couldn’t answer her.
“How do you know he’s frowning?” Merlin asked, and the bird swiveled his neck and glared at him, malevolently. “Ah,” Merlin said quickly. “Never mind.”
A breeze stirred the feathers along the owl’s—Robb’s—back, and he hooted in surprise, batting his wings suddenly to keep his balance. Gwen grunted with the shifting weight of him on her arm, her hair blown back from the drafts off his wings, and she grinned.
“Just look at that wingspan. You know,” she said to Merlin, “If you’d accidentally turned him into a wolf instead, he wouldn’t even be upset. But I kind of like the owl-thing.”
Now the eyes, large and yellow, turned balefully onto her. “Oh, all right,” Gwen said regretfully. “Merlin, you’d better turn him back.”
